the maker

From Tree To Sea is the creative expression of Lauren Strybos, a Chinese-Jamaican ceramicist and former wildlife biologist from Ontario. With a passion for the outdoors & environmental conservation, along with a love of playing with clay since childhood, Lauren creates one of a kind ceramics that often have a raw, organic feel to them. Her travels have inspired much of her work, with an emphasis on tones, textures and shapes found in native flora + fauna.

After re-rooting in Calgary, Alberta, Lauren now works out of Nvrlnd. studios, an artist run collective in Ramsay.

From Tree To Sea is based on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Nations, which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, and the Kainai. We also acknowledge the Tsuut’ina and Stoney Nakoda First Nations, the Métis Nation (Region 3), and all people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta.

the work

From Tree To Sea ceramics are made in small batches using primarily stoneware. Pieces often feature happy designs & coloured glazes plus a good mix of smooth, wheel thrown shapes and organically hand-built vessels.
